Beetle-Bud and I wish you...

A very Magnificent Monday  to you!

Today I would like to introduce you to someone...

His name is Beetle-Bud.
He's a rather grand little friend of mine.

We met in Doodle Land the other day when he suddenly appeared in the Avenue of White. I thought he was a rather  kind and dashing little beetle so I invited him to come for a visit sometime. So, yesterday he met me outside for a visit...

Beetle Bud and I...

We enjoyed a nice little chat about books and which tea is best to drink on a winter day. Then he went back to his little house in Doodle Land.

But, I sent him a little letter asking if he would help me wish all of you a happy new year. Being the kind little beetle that he is he wholeheartedly agreed. So, all the way from Doodle Land, Beetle-Bud decorated his house with cheerful new year's stars and sent a picture my way. I then added a happy little greeting for all of you.

All in all, we wish you a very happy new year!

Goodbye 2012...

May your new year's eve be fun, festive, and safe.

Many smiles and blessings!

Sarah  (And, Beetle-Bud)

I will stand on Daddy's feet...

Little Soldier song...

The Dance Floor...

My Feet...

Daddy's Feet...

Dancing Time...

Stand on Daddy's Feet...

I love my Daddy so very much.
When I heard Mindy Gledhill's song Little Soldier earlier this month I cried.
Sometimes a song moves you. (That song still moves me every time I listen to it.) After I listened to that song that first time I was inspired to photograph dancing and standing on Daddy's feet. My amazing Daddy agreed to help my inspiration become a reality.

And so, tonight, we took pictures. Then we turned the camera off, we danced to the song, and I sang along for my Daddy. We danced as if I were ten, even though it was just pretend.

I love my Daddy very much.
I treasure memory making moments like these.

Lessons for my heart sparked by a shirt...

There are lessons that I've learned this year that I want to remember.
Sometimes, lessons are sparked by funny things. That shirt is such a case. To any other individual, that shirt may be simply a floral printed top with tiny mustard buttons. But, for me, it is more than that. God taught me a lesson with that shirt and He used it to work on my heart. As my heart was worked on, truth was spoken, and I've grown. The details of the lessons and heart-workings are mine. It is for my journal pages and my heart. Yet, part of what I use this blog for is to save memories. So, this one is for me-

Future self,

When you read this post take time to remember. Remember lessons that you have learned from a shirt that reminds you of your Grandmother's home and many other things. Don't forget the way this shirt sparked lessons for your heart. Remember.

I hope that all of you are having a wonderful weekend!

I have a fun little post to share tomorrow!

I made memories in the snow...

Snow Dancing...

Annie Snow...

Snow Angel Collage...

When it snowed I made memories.
I made memories dancing and twirling amidst the falling snowflakes.
I made memories watching my sweet pup Annie enjoy the snow.
I made memories falling back, laughing, and making a snow-angel.

Snow can create a wonderful setting for making memories.

Have you ever made memories in the snow?
If so, what are some of your favorite snow memories?

When songs inspire photos...

July and June

I have so many post ideas swirling about in my mind. Yet, tonight, tonight I want to simply listen to some music, snuggle with my cat, fill a paper journal with thoughts and glide ink words across the lines to document memories.

I was recently inspired to photograph things based on song lyrics that have inspired or spoken to me. The first time I heard those lines from the song July and June I smiled. Those lyrics create a vivid picture within my mind. So, I decided to sit outside for a bit one day and photograph our telephone wire. I thought about all the words it has carried all these years. I imagined all the words spilling out, but I would only get the lovely ones. I could scoop them up and create a collage on a giant canvas with the.

Today, I hope you enjoy this photo and the lyrics that inspired me. There may even be more song-lyric inspired photos soon.

I'm off to enjoy my Juni cat and pick up my pen.

Happy Friday to you!

Snowflakes gracing hair...

My beautiful Sissy asked me to take pictures of the snow in her hair. There is something so very beautiful about snow flakes landing. I stood watching the snow as it gracefully fell and clung to her long wavy hair. She was right, it positively had to be photographed.

It is amazing how some of the simplest things can be so beautiful. Desi continues to help me search for glory and beauty amidst the daily memory making times.

A funny side note in regards to Desi- I wasn't sure how these photos were going to turn out. I had put Desi (my camera) in a plastic bag to help keep the moisture of the snow off. The lens was the only thing outside of the bag. So, for all of these shots I was having to look through thick plastic. During the actual picture taking I really didn't know how well the photos were looking. So, it was more of photography by "feel" with a little bit of visibility. I'm so pleased with how they turned out!

What do you think? Can you see the beauty of snowflakes gracing strands of hair?

A white Christmas greeting...

Snow in hand...

Merry Christmas!

I can hardly believe it, but it is actually a white Christmas for us! I'll be sharing more pictures this week. But, for now I just wanted to wish you a very merry Christmas. I'm overwhelmingly blessed and enjoying time with my precious family. I love them so very much.

Gifts from the fellow...

Luke is sweet. It is true. Very true.

Yesterday I was blessed so very, very  much!
It began with a wonderful time in Biblical community. I was able to share a Christmas spoken word as a part of the service. I wrote it last year and shared it last year too. But, as my sweet friend Sara Beth once said, spoken words can be shared more than once. After all, a singer doesn't have to write a new song for every time they sing. It is such a blessing to be able to share and be able to worship in community.

After the morning Luke took me out to lunch. We went and enjoyed some yummy Italian food. It was nice. After lunch we went off to run a few errands and then for a bit of ice-cream. While at the ice-cream place we exchanged gifts. I gave him a photobook I had created online and then ordered a copy of. It was filled with photos from this year and poems that I wrote just for him about the pictures and memories. Then, Luke blessed me with more than I ever expected.

He gave me a gift set of sweat pea scented goodies. I normally don't like floral scents very much, but this one smells amazing! In fact, I'm wearing it as I type this very post.

Sweat Pea

He also gave me a journal and little pen. It made me smile because he actually picked out a journal that is the same as the one I've been writing in since July. But, that actually made me really excited! It means that I can have a sort of first and second edition, like a little journal duo!

Notebooks 1 and 2

Lastly, but the most overwhelming, Luke gave me a note and a CD. The note was wonderful. It blessed my heart. And, the CD! Wow. Luke and I have written multiple songs together over this past year. It is one of the things that we enjoy doing together. So, for a gift for me Luke took the time to record his guitar instrumentals of two of the songs we've made together. But, he also recorded himself playing the melodies that I normally sing for the songs too! The other two tracks on the CD are instrumentals that he has made on his own. One he wrote and played on the Ukulele for me for our 6 month and the other was one I hadn't heard yet. It was a beautiful song which he named Daisy after my favorite flower. Luke also took time to be creative and make artwork for the case and CD. Goodness, I can't fully express how wonderful this gift is.

This fellow of mine blessed me with quality time, delicious food, quality time with his family, gifts I can hold in my hands, words that I can cherish, and music that I can listen to. I'm so very blessed.

His family also gave me a beautiful scarf which I will be wearing tonight to a family gathering.

Goodness, I'm so overwhelmed and I'm not even done celebrating with loved ones yet.

God is so very good. He has been faithful to me amidst the terrible health times, the tears, and fears. And, He is faithful to me now amidst this beautiful season of life and joy.

A very merry Christmas Eve  to you!

Two red hats and two red coats...

It is a funny thing when watching a movie you suddenly see a very similar version of one of your favorite outfits being worn.

Well, that was indeed a reality for me today.

The movie was called Love Surreal. It was free on Hulu, so, I watched it while resting this afternoon. As I was watching it I smiled when I saw the main character wear a coat and hat VERY similar to my favorite coat and hat. Last year (about this same time of year in fact) I had pictures taken in the red hat and coat. I wear that faithful duo often. The similarity to the outfit in the movie made me laugh so much that I decided a collage was positively necessary.

There were some similarities to the character beyond the hat and coat. Though, don't worry, I'm thankfully not a college student who has an imaginary friend/boyfriend. And, I have wonderful parents that don't decorate their future tombstones every holiday. (Those things probably won't make much sense if you've never seen the movie.)

I've had a good laugh and a good bit of fun with this movie outfit discovery.
I hope maybe someone else also smiles after reading this little post.

 Happy weekend to you!

The snow-globe quartet...

Far away in Alaska my siblings and I have a kind Aunt and Uncle that always bless us with cards on our birthdays and Christmas cards, money, and ornaments each year. This year my Aunt and Uncle sent two Christmas packages to my family.

They arrived this week! In one package there were little snow-globes that can glow with different color light sequences when you flip a switch. They make my siblings and I smile. We each took time to choose a name for our little snow-globes.

I thought I would photograph them and document them on here. Maybe they will make you smile a little too!

Now, I happily introduce the snow-globe quartet!

This is Eragon. He is owned by J and wears a rather dashing top-hat.

This is Santa. Micah chose that name, because he is, well, Santa! Santa is looking quite jolly in his outfit and sleigh.

This is Ruby. She is the only gal in the bunch and wears a lovely red hat upon her snowy head. Dana is quite pleased to have her about.

Last, but not least, is Feivel. He is a bit shy and timid, but very joyful! He likes to make people smile with his colorful hat and the star upon his chest. I'm very fond of him and enjoy his quiet company as he sits nearby.

There you have them! You've met each of them and I imagine you now understand why they make us smile.

I'm thinking we may need to start a tradition with these little snow-globes.
Maybe we'll set up some sort of creative photo session with them each year. We'll see.

Speaking of traditions, what are some of your favorite traditions?
I encourage you to take a little time today to reflect on pleasant memories from those traditions.

Love lights and prayers...

Love Lights

I can't sit beside the families whose hearts are hurting and hug them.
I can't hold their hands and pray with them.
I don't know those who are aching so from the loss of life this past week.

But, I don't need to know them. I can pray for them here.
I can pray for them as I sit amidst the light of the beauty of the tree.
I can pray for them as I pack boxes and clean today.

By God's grace, I may love those around me.
I may love my family and value time with them.
I may love the stranger that takes my order, the checker that scans my goods, and the fellow bloggers in this online sphere.

I know amidst all of this that God is good.
I do not understand all things, but I trust in His goodness.

My heart aches for the loss of life being taken by a fellow human.
I whisper prayers amidst the loss and desire to live, and love, and be a bright light shining the truth and love of Christ much like the lovely lights shining atop the tree. Except, I won't stop shining once Christmas has passed. I'll carry on throughout the year. By God's grace I'll shine truth and love throughout this season and the coming year.

John 1:4-5, "In him was life, and the life was the light of men.The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

I'm so thankful for the light and life that Christ has brought and that the darkness has not overcome it.

Hats and a Little-Bow-Sweet...

Hat stack.

Lately I've been blessed with multiple hat orders. The first hat order came when I wore one of my handmade hats to school and one of my classmates asked about it. When I told her I made it she asked right away if I would make two to sell to her and how much I charged. The next orders came when I sat in the hallway with yarn and crochet hook in hand. A few of my classmates took notice. They began asking me questions about it and then ordered hats too. So, in the past month or so I've made 6 new adults sized hats. Most of the hats have been my signature flower hat style.

Flower hats...

But, the hat that I'm most proud of is an adorable newborn hat that I created. It is so sweet! I had so much fun creating it!

Little-bow-cute hat...

Doesn't that Little-Bow-Sweet hat make you smile?

Well, I'm off to work on a few more orders.

Happy weekend to you!

First semester finished...

This morning at 8am I began my very last final.
I didn't feel very optimistic about it. It was History class and there were a lot of dates to remember. I had calculated the worst case scenario and the best and I was simply hoping I would do well enough to keep a B in the class.

After the test I sat in the lobby waiting for Momma to pick me back up. My perfectionist mind was going crazy thinking of all the things I probably got wrong and how I shouldn't have capitalized the word Southerners. I kept telling myself to let it go. I couldn't go back and change anything. It was done and I would have to accept the grade whatever it was.

Little by little I worked on letting it go. Then Luke picked me up and we enjoyed some time together and a nice celebration lunch.

This afternoon I looked up my grade and...I made an 85! And, I made an A in the class!

Which now means...

First Semester

I did it! I finished my first semester of college. It is official!

And, to top it all off, I made a 4.0 GPA in my college level classes and a B in my developmental math.
I'm super duper happy and very, very, very blessed!

This is my celebration jump...

Happy Jump

This is a bit what my tired and blurry mind feels like...(I predict that the finals' week symptoms will be gone by Monday.)

A bit tired...

But, mostly, I'm smiling and looking forward to a restful winter break...

Winter break...

I have lovely posts that I hope to share with all of you soon.

How are you?
What have I missed while away in the land of college studying?

Nose in a book...

Nose in a book...

Dear everyone,

I truly hope that you have had a Magnificent Monday!

I'm tired and off to bed. However, I couldn't sleep until I took the time to wish you a Magnificent Monday!

I need to be honest, you may not hear from me again until this semester is over. I'm down to the final stretch of things with all the final projects and tests. So, please don't be surprised if you don't see any posts from me until after December 13th. I will miss blogging, but at the moment it feels like I simply won't have time.

I'm off to sleep. I'll be spending this week and the next with my nose in my notebooks and school books, my eyes on writing assignments, and my mind working hard to convince my emotions to finish the semester well. The study books won't be as pleasant as a book of fiction, but I will have time for fiction soon.

Goodnight everyone!

I look forward to sharing more once winter break is here.

Seasons' Goodbyes: November...

Dear November

Seasons' Goodbyes- A whimsical time of letters to reflect back on the past month.

Dear November,

This is goodbye for this year.
You've been a nice month. Filled with grand things and some hard things.
I'm thankful for the autumn colors you brought my way.
I'm thankful.

December is on its way. Bringing finals and the start of winter break.

I'll miss you with your warm colors. I so enjoy the crunch of leaves on the ground and jumping into the giant leaf pile the other night when Luke brought me home. Because, after all, leaf piles are meant to jump in.

During your stay I've made memories with loved ones, finished my Christmas shopping, received hat requests, and enjoyed fun creative times. You've been a nice month.

Well, November, I'm off to sleep.
When I awake December will have arrived.

Goodbye, November. Goodnight.

Hall light inspired...

Once upon a time last night, the hall light reminded me of the moon.

The moon lamp...

The moon lamp with flower cloud...

It glowed so brightly in its space like sky.

Then I imagined what it might be like to float in outer space...

Floating in space...

I went on an adventure.

But, after awhile I thought it best to come back down to earth.

Then I looked up at the hall light again, but this time it made me think of the sun.

So, I introduced my daisies to the indoor sun.

Flower and indoor sun...

Daisy Dream2

It was a grand adventure. I was inspired by the hall light last night.

What unexpected object might inspire you today?
